Covid-19 Eid + Mahalabia/Middle Eastern Milk Pudding Recipe

Eid 2020 just happened and it was different but so fun!

Due to Covid-19, we have been physical distancing and trying to stay home as much as we can, which I am not going to lie, has been splendid. My husband works from home and my work hours have reduced to half and I only work 2/3 times a week. That means we spend so much more time together which allows us to share the home chores.

Ramadan started at the end of April, for those who are not aware, Muslims fast (abstain from eating & drinking) during this month from sunrise to sunset. It is also a time for prayer, spiritual reflection, self-improvement and heightened devotion and worship.

Then comes Eid which marks the end of the Holy month of Ramadan where Muslims around the world, put on their best clothes, attend morning communal prayer, give charity, and visit friends and family

Writing about Eid brings such fond memories of when I was growing up. Helping my mom cook up a feast, all the morning hugs and kisses, the gifts from my parents and grandparents and our get-togethers with our friends and family – ah all the good times

Since I got married I moved away, Eid has been just as special only quieter. Since it’s just us two. But unlike every year, this year was a little bit different. We attended the virtual live prayer session, prepared food and had a cute little celebration at home video chatting with our families.

Because this year Eid was a little different, I decided to do something special; make a cute little ‘eid corner’!!! . Typically, my mom would decorate the long 8 seater dinning table with a very pretty table runner, flowers, flashy cutlery, and so on. However in my little family of two, we only needed a small table and an empty wall to make our little Eid corner. (See pics below)

It has always been a tradition for us to make curried black chickpeas with potatoes on Eid, along with that, I also made something new and different. Mahalabia (in Arabic) or Middle Eastern Milk Pudding. I garnished it with little dried roses and grounded pistachios . Let me tell you – it turned out absolutely DELICIOUS and looked phenomenal!!! I will link the recipe below so you guys can check it out and make it too. It’s very easy to make and you only need 4 ingredients.

Anyways, I’ll let you guys enjoy the pictures. Enjoy 🙂
