Dear Diary MOTHERHOOD

Hospital & baby bag

Why hello there, aren’t I very happy to see you here… honestly!! It’s been way too long since I wrote a blog post, it feels great to have my fingers dance around the keyboard as I type this post!

The original plan was to have this post go live before the baby’s arrival but obviously, that didn’t happen so instead, it’s going live after, which I don’t think is a bad idea – Look at it this way, I now know exactly what I used & what I didn’t need. So I will share the list of things that I took with me and used!

Let’s get straight to it shall we?! with a new babe at home, I hardly have time to dillydally so just like everything else, I’m going to keep this short and sweet. I tried to link everything I took, but for what I couldn’t find, I linked something similar. I hope this post + links come in handy!

Hospital bag:

  1. Going home outfit – Something I value very much is being comfortable, especially at a time like this. It was important that I remain comfortable throughout my time at the hospital and when going home. My fav loungewear set from H&M and a clean hijab was going to be my going-home outfit.

I cannot find the exact links to the loungewear set as it was from a few seasons back, however, I did manage to find something similar. Here, here, & here. I took this hijab with me as it matched my outfit.
  2. Comfy slides – You guys, this is a must! I needed something easy to put on and remove. I kept getting on and off the bed either coz I needed to use the restroom or because I felt like swinging my hips during some of the contractions. Either way, sliding my feet into something comfy made my life a whole lot easier. I had these slides (grey color) with me but some other options are here, here, & here.
  3. A new towel set – Okay you obviously don’t need to get a whole new towel set as I did, this was just something I wanted to do for myself. I took a body & face towel with me. I got mine from Winners but I have linked some options for you here.
  4. Toiletries – If you’re anything like me then taking a hot shower after your baby is born will be at the top of your list. Once we were all settled in with the baby, I ran into the shower and it felt like heaven – so amazing & refreshing – I slept like a baby after. I filled up my toiletry bag with literally everything I knew I was going to need and more. Some of the items in there were my toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, face wash, moisturizer, fav perfume & body wash.
  5. Postpartum Pads – Don’t think I need to add anything else here, but in case you weren’t aware, you will need some kinds of pads or diapers that are comfortable and leakproof.
  6. Lastly, this might sound random but I took a room spray with me as well. This was to help create a positive ambiance and keep me calm. If you follow me on Instagram, you know I am obsessed with Oud, and when I was gifted this oud room spray, I knew it was coming with me to the hospital. Since I can’t link the exact room spray I used, I found another option here.

That’s pretty much my simple and practical hospital bag. Nothing too crazy, just a handful of items to help me get through my time at the hospital. Some of the other things that I took and didn’t end up using were:

-warm fuzzy socks
-nursing bras
-postpartum belly recovery belt
-shampoo & conditioner, and
-breast pads.

A lot of people recommended taking a 10″ phone charger, I didn’t feel like I would need one that long, instead, I just took my regular phone charger and had no issues.

There was one thing that I really wish I did take though… a straw water bottle. The water bottle I had with me was the regular kind with a wide open mouth, which is great, but not when you are in pain and laying down on the bed waiting for the next contraction and feeling nauseous. It was very uncomfortable to drink water in that bottle and instead really wished I took a straw bottle like this one, where I could continue laying down and sip on my water as I go.

Baby bag:

For my little baby, I just need a handful of things listed below. Every hospital is different, mine provided us with a few diapers and a swaddle blanket to use while we were there. So check with your hospital to see if they’ll provide you with these basic necessities. What I took with me:

  1. Three going-home outfits plus mittens, socks, and a hat. I took extra pairs just in case I had to stay at the hospital longer.
  2. Two muslin swaddles.
  3. Newborn Diapers
  4. Wipes

I didn’t need anything extra for the baby, whatever I took was enough. Since I had a vaginal birth, I was able to leave the hospital after 24 hrs. Mothers who need a C -section may need to spend a few more days (around 3 days… I think). I’d say pack extras just in case your birth plan doesn’t go as expected.

Have you ever had to pack a hospital and baby bag? did I miss something that you might have taken and came in handy? let us know so we can be better prepared next time!

Thank you for coming by, I hope this post helps someone out there!
